Move over trans fat there’s another epidemic sweeping your city moving faster then Godzilla in the Potamic River. It’s fois gras, no? It’s baby formula!
That would be correct. Forget the choice ladies and gents, it seems like New York City is breasts only.
Um, first? You made me click on a link to Fox News. Second, did you read the whole article? “Mothers who request formula will still receive it.” Oh, no! God forbid we promote a free solution over a profitable one…
How about just choice. If you want to buy it, buy it. Some woman can’t and don’t want to breast feed. Why shouldn’t they get their free tote bag full of formula?
personally, i think they should ban all other beverages in nyc and just have big-breasted women standing on the corners serving breast milk straight from the, er, “tap.”
oh, i know. how perverted.
but think about it. wouldn’t nyc be a much friendlier place all around if breast-feeding were the main source of hydration? you could even set up burping stations next to the breast feeding stations.
to quote john lennon, “you may say i’m a dreamer…”
Okay, obviously automatically giving women both formula and breast feeding info and formula info would be would be the most obvious way to ensure “choice,” but how is this nanny-statism? They’re just switching from one default to another. If things had been reversed, and they were moving from automatically recommending breast-feeding to automatically recommending formula, would you be heralding this as a victory for choice? Or would be make the same arguement-that New York city is “banning” breasts?
As for you, Oldmancoyote, the charm is starting to fade…
At least it hasn’t come to this yet.
Bloomberg Sets His Third Eye to Banning Incense at Yoga Studios

I think we need a flow chart of everything that’s banned and pass it out. Thanks for the link. That was great.
I can see how giving out formula in the hospital (especially from a specifc company) can seem like marketing.
However, do people really think JUST because formula is available and given out free in the hospital, that it would sway a woman who’s already chosen to breastfeed? Highly unlikely. And as far as that goal of 100% of new moms breastfeeding? Ridiculous and unrealistic. People choose to breastfeed or not breastfeed for personal reasons. Of course studies show that breastfeeding is good for the baby. But studies haven’t show that formula feeding is harmful to babies. Let people make their own choices. And if the hospital giving out a free thing of formula sways a mother who had already decided on breastfeeding away from breastfeeding? Then one needs to wonder about the mother, not the formula companies or the hospitals.
By the way.. Just saying.. but I like the site’s old layout…
I liked the old layout, too…
